Technology Aids Student Protests

The New School University and New York University occupations were among the first student-led protests to use technology to gain global support for their cause and to get attention from the universities’ administrations. Historically, student-led protests have been a way for young people to demonstrate disapproval of a political or academic issue. But today's technology-driven students take activism to a new level. Internet networking and instant transmission of information allows students to connect with various parts of the world and potentially reach a larger audience. A quarter of the world has Internet access. North America is among the highest in percent penetration with 3 out of 4 Internet users. Take Back NYU! Last month, 70 New York University students took over their school's dining room in the Kimmel Center for University Life.
